Juan Nunez, the 21-year-old point guard from Madrid, is getting closer to returning to the courts with FC Barcelona Bàsquet. After nearly a year away from competition due to a right knee injury, Nunez has started working with the group, as confirmed by coach Xavi Pascual. On his first day back, the player engaged in passing and shooting drills alongside his teammates, although he still needs time to reach full fitness.
Last season, Nunez suffered a tear of the external meniscus in his right knee, leading him to undergo arthroscopy on March 11, 2025. After six months on the sidelines, he was cleared for preseason, but he aggravated his injury during a friendly against Paris Basketball, necessitating another surgical procedure on October 1. This second operation will keep him off the court for another six months, with a potential return in April.
Throughout his recovery, Nunez has been working at Barcelona's medical center in Sant Joan Despí, supported by club professionals and other athletes facing similar long-term injuries. Since mid-February, he has moved his sessions to Palau Blaugrana, combining gym work with on-court activities to regain his touch.
In his debut season before the injury, Nunez played in approximately 50 games, standing out in 25 EuroLeague matches where he averaged 5 points and 7.4 efficiency rating, as well as in 20 ACB League games with 5.1 points and 7.6 efficiency rating. His return is eagerly anticipated by fans and the team, who believe in his potential to make a significant contribution in the future.
Nunez's recovery is a testament to his dedication and effort, and his comeback to the team could be an important boost for Barça in both the EuroLeague and ACB League.
